Joe Maggini currently runs Format Music Solutions, a division of Format Entertainment that encompasses a label and music publishing company, a trailer library, and a custom music creation business.
Maggini oversees all aspects of the company’s operations, including creative, film/television pitching and clearance, licensing, administration, and royalties.
Prior to joining the Format team in August 2013, Maggini was Director of Creative at Universal Music Publishing Group for six years. During his tenure at UMPG, he actively pursued new talent, while also looking after a broad stable of artists, songwriters, and producers. Joe’s roster included Macy Gray, Atticus Ross, Daniel Lanois, George Duke, David Lynch, Duncan Sheik, Angelo Badalamenti, and BB King, among others. His signings included Youngblood Hawke, Beware of Darkness, and songwriter/artist/producer Jason Hill, all enjoying considerable synch success while under Joe’s watch.
Previously, Maggini worked as Director of Writer-Publisher Relations at BMI in Los Angeles, where he was responsible for affiliating songwriter/artists early and often. Among some of his affiliations were Mark Foster (Foster the People), Allen Stone, Hollywood Undead, and Joshua James, to name just a few.
Before BMI, Maggini began his career in both the Songplugging and A&R departments at BMG Music Publishing, and he had the opportunity to work with artists like The All-American Rejects, Yellowcard, Thrice, and Rachael Yamagata.
In addition to his A&R expertise, Maggini brings a solid working knowledge of the film and television music business and maintains strong relationships with music supervisors, film studios, TV music departments, and trailer houses. During his time at both Format and UMPG, Maggini has had a multitude of high-profile placements, including songs in major and independent motion pictures, soundtracks, TV promos, film trailers, TV shows, advertising campaigns, and video games.
